FDC crisis depeens as Winnie Kizza considers quitting LoP job

Kasese District Woman MP Hon Winnie Kizza is weighing her future as Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Parliament insisting she will not wait to be sacked by new FDC president Patrick Amuriat.

TrumpetNews understands that Kizza had threatened to resign on Tuesday but the moderates implored her to stay in office and wait for Amuriat to expose himself by replacing her with a radical ally.

Winnie Kizza supports defeated party leader Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu who lost an election to Amuriat last Friday which has since caused a sharp rift in the party with moderates whose ideology is institutional building pitting against activists.

The radical wing of FDC has been accusing Muntu of selectively appointing his own allies to takeover parliamentary positions like LoP and Opposition Chief Whip which is occupied by Kiira Municipality Hon Ssemuju Nganda.

A source in FDC told this website that on Tuesday Kizza threatened to quit saying she wouldn’t wait to be fired by Amuriat as the case in 2012 when Muntu dropped Hon Nandala Mafabi after assuming FDC leadership.

Mafabi was LoP and challenged Muntu for the party top job.

Muntu replaced Mafabi with then Bukooli Central MP Wafula Ogutu.

Speaking to TrumpetNews on Wednesday, Kizza expressed no fears saying she was ready to be sacked.

“That office is not personal and I was appointed and I am ready to leave,” she said.

LoP is one of the powerful positions in Parliament with privileges like security and a huge budget.

With Muntu announcing resumption of country-wide consultative meetings, the radical faction anticipates Kizza will use office funds to facilitate these political activities.

Hon Ssemujju when asked about his future as opposition chief whip, he said he was ready to be disbanded.

Every after 2 and a half years FDC asseses performance of LoP.
