Outgoing FDC president Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu has announced that he will begin wider consultations on several political activities in the country with his own movement, a latest sign of forming a splinter group within traditional Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
But maintained staying in FDC and he will conduct these consultations in his capacity as a senior leader of the party which will be transparent.
In the course of these consultative meetings, Muntu will rally opposition supporters to participate in the upcoming LC1 elections, seek views of several stakeholders on the outcome of recent FDC elections which he lost and also mobilise Ugandans to resist age limit removal.
He was speaking to the media on Wednesday for the first time at Africana Hotel since he was defeated in a hotly contested FDC presidential race last Friday at Namboole Stadium.
As the public waited anxiously for the ‘bigger announcement’ Muntu however said after carrying out consultations he would then make a difficult decision.
“There is a lot of debate all over the country. We don’t intend to rush to make a decision out of anger and frustration, because this could be a matter of life and death,” a tough talking but humble Muntu said.
Adding that several politicians lie to the public and others choose to say anything they want. But to make a decision one doesn’t need to panic.
The FDC heavyweight came under immense pressure from his supporters urging him to quit after Friday loss since their warring faction of the extremists led by party founder Kizza Besigye wouldn’t let them (moderates) operate in a smooth and fair environment.
Muntu however, explained that after conducting these consultations he will come up with a decision which still unknown, “We shall then make a decision which I don’t know yet.”
Asked if he will open an office for his operations same way Col Kizza Besigye did at Katonga Road which ran parallel political activities with mainstream party at time he was FDC president, Muntu said, “I will definitely open business office.”
The former army commander will this Friday handover office to newly elected FDC leader Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) who was fronted by Besigye and party Secretary General Hon Nandala Mafabi.
