President Yoweri Kaguta has instructed his aides to source for a high-profile local communications firm to publicise and deal with the disputed age limit bill.
The President, according to State House sources is greatly irked by the complacency and laid back attitude many government officials have exhibited in dealing with this sensitive political issue.
A source familiar with this arrangement added that Museveni wondered why the opposition have ‘stolen’ the limelight while publicizing ‘Togikwatako’ slogan that casts a bad image of his administration.
“The President wonders what several spokespersons of government bodies have done to counter the malicious propaganda launched by the opposition members against the regime,” said a source.
The source told this website that Museveni is not happy with vocal ministers who have since laid back and let events happen with no response to avert poor image displays.
“The Minister of Information Frank Tumwebaze is quiet, the spokesman, Government publicist Ofwono Opondo is overwhelmed, he can’t do much apart from attending radio and TV talkshows, the party (NRM) spin masters are no where,” said a source.
Museveni, according to this source was rattled with footage of residents overwhelmingly opposing removal of age limit law as NRM legislators descended to their constituencies to consult the electorate.
Majority of the ruling party lawmakers encountered hostility from voters warning them to amend the constitution at their own peril.
The locals insist that scrapping age cap is to pave way for Museveni’s life rule which they vehemently opposed.
On other hand, the opposition leaders have urged citizens to shed the last drop of their blood to defend the constitution.

The President was shocked how locals treated his legislators yet the NRM has been popular on ground.
“Either the MPs were not presenting the the values and ideals of removing this law correctly. This should be dealt with on a clean slate.”
After thorough consultations, Museveni advised that the historicals and other local opinion leaders in the party “don boots” and start traversing the country in joint consultations.
“That is why you have recently seen the likes of Jim Muhwezi, Premier Ruhakana Rugunda, and other party leaders converge in unison and engage the electorate. The results of these concerted efforts are changing the game of the consultation plan,” said a source.
One of the major roles of this PR company will be to design a strategy to see age limit bill passed without resistance, but by will of the common man.
“That way, NRM will have defeated its enemies but also this will show that the party fancies democratic pathways against all other ways” a source added.
The NRM which has over three-quarters of Legislation membership is expected to overwhelming vote to have the contentious age limit bill amendment passed.
When reached to substantiate this information, Presidential Spokesperson Don Wanyama said he is not aware.
