Uganda Police Force has clarified that it’s investigative unit Special Investigation Division (SID) is handling the probe into killings of women in Katabi Town Council, Entebbe and Nansana Municipality in Wakiso district.
The clarification comes against a backdrop of media reports that an American Investigative agency Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had taken over the probe.
The FBI formerly the Bureau of Investigation, is the domestic intelligence and security service of the United States, and its principal federal law enforcement.
Police mouthpiece AIGP Asan Kasingye on Tuesday told TrumpetNews that, “we would like to inform the general public that the investigation into the killings of women in Katabi Town Council and Nansana Municipality is conducted by Special Investigations Division (SID) of the Uganda Police.
23 women were grisly murdered in 4 months in Kampala and neighbouring towns, but police is yet to arrest the killers even when the murders bear same hallmarks.
Police has sternly been criticised for failing to curb increasing criminality in Uganda in the recent days.
Last week reports indicated that its sister agency CMI had taken over the probe.
