Court grants Gashumba bail

City businessman Frank Gashumba and his brother Innocent Kasumba have been granted bail.

Buganda Road Court Magistrate on Monday asked the suspects to pay a shs 20 million non cash bond each.

Earlier Court read charges including; Impersonation, forgery and possession of drugs.

It is alleged that Franco Malingumu Gashumba,Innocent Kasumba and Disans Kiyingi while at Tulip hotel in Kampala with an intent to defraud Kolgvan Dirutop  and Mani Meerscghman both Dutch nationals falsely presented themselves as Col.Francis Okello, the Director Logistics, Dr.John Mwine, the Director procurement in the Ministry of Defence before obtaining money so as to offer contracts to them (Dutch) for supplying trucks, troop carriers, heavy machines and water tanks.

The state also accuses the trio of unlawful possession of nartcotic drugs suspected to be marijuana.
They are also accused of forgery contrary to section 342 and 347 of the Penal Code Act when they forged Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs identification cards.

They are also accused of forging stamps for the South Sudan ministry of finance and economic planning, Ministry of Agriculture and forestry for the Juba government.

Buganda road chief magistrate James Eremye Mawanda only read them the charges adding that they would take plea when prosecutors appear in court after suspending their ongoing strike.

Taking plea is when a suspect is asked whether he accepts or denies the charges against them.

However, the trio have through their lawyers led by Isaac Ssemakadde and Denis Nyombi have told court that the offences against them are bailable.

“They have been in detention beyond the mandatory 48 hours, “Nyombi told court.

The lawyers argued that the offences against their clients are mere allegations until proven by court asking for a temporary release.

Gashumba presented three sureties including MP. Joseph Ssewungu and Joseph Musoke, former LC5 chairman for Kalungu district
