In 5 years (since) 2012 about 10 Muslim clerics have been grisly murdered by unknown assailants.
Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura has in most times connected the brutal murders to Al Shabaab linked rebel outfit Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) which operates in Western Uganda and parts of Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (ADF) which was headed by jail bird Jamilu Mukulu.
Some of the Sheikhs that have ‘faced’ the wrath of ADF include; Abubaker Kiweewa, Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga, Sheikh Abdulrashid Wafula, Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kirya, former ADF rebel Maj Mohammed Kiggundu and others.
Whereas the killers have until today remained at large, a Tablig sect leader Sheikh Muhammad Yunus Kamoga has been in Luzira prison battling murder charges until Court dropped the case recently and sentenced him to life imprisonment over terrorism.
Fellow convicts Yusuf Kakande and Abdulsalam Sekayanja alias Kassim Mulumba will serve 30 years in jail each.
Fundamentalism
This website has exclusively established that Somali based terrorist group Al Shabaab wanted to extend its cells in East Africa through funding ADF and later penetrate Uganda which is deemed a stronger fighter of terrorism.
“ADF then approached Muslim Sheikhs to help infiltrate and spread across the country,” a high ranking security official who asked not to be named because of sensitivity of the matter.
The Mukulu led group would on several occasions meet these Sheikhs to lay strategy on how to recruit, infitrate security and widen its operations in the country.
This website understands ADF heavily funded this operation because it was receiving dollars from Al Shabaab.
Betrayal
A source added that however, the approached Sheikhs would later betray the terrorists by running to high ranking government officials and leaked information.
The Sheikhs were promised security protection but somehow laid back after ADF was heavily crashed and weakened in Uganda and thus started operating in the remote areas of Congo.
“The Sheikhs revealed to these extremists how they abandoned the operation because security had bust the master plan,” said a source.
TrumpetNews has further learnt that the Sheikhs started working closely with Police officers to unravel and dismantle ADF cells in Uganda.
“That is why at some point Kayihura camped in Namayingo in Eastern Uganda where ADF had developed cells,” a source said.
TrumpetNews further ascertained that the Sheikhs shared the “terrorism cash” with some top police bosses (names withheld) for security reasons who pledged to protect these clerics.
Our source pointed out that Late Andrew Felix Kaweesi could be one of those officers the Sheikhs secretly approached and told about the ADF operations.
Vengence
Upon finding out that the Sheikhs betrayed them, the ADF rebels vowed that whoever is linked to these clerics must be killed.
“Their contacts openly told these Muslims that they must death as a punishment for defrauding and suffocating the exention of fundamentalism in Uganda,” said a source.
Even Police Officers who were believed to have collaborated with these Sheikhs were put on red notice.
“In fact Late Kaweesi was warned several times that ADF wanted him dead but he took it lightly,” added a source.
All the Sheikhs gunned down might not have directly dealt with the terrorists but in one way or the other had some information of the said operation.
Police publicity AIGP Asan Kasingye when contacted on this matter expressed ignorance saying it was first first time to hear such information.
Kasingye said he would start digging deep to ascertain whether this information is authentic.
