Age-Limit: Chaos resumes in parliament as Magezi flees legal committee hearing

Parliament was at it again on Tuesday afternoon as legislators on both opposition and ruling party sides exchanged verbal artilleries over age limit bill.

The clash happened as Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs launched its public hearing for witnesses led by chief mover of the age limit motion who is also Igara West lawmaker Hon Raphael Magezi appeared to make his case.

It all started with Kira Municipality MP and also opposition chief whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda requesting the committee chairman Hon Jacob Oboth Oboth that he felt uncomfortable dSebating from a small room with no guaranteed security.

Ssemujju feared if the committee got sucked into a heated debate, there would be a repeat of previous scenario where plain clothed security agents raided floor of Parliament grabbed and arrested most of the opposition lawmakers.

Hon Oboth succumbed and the Committee members shifted to a bigger conference room.

The proceedings were adjourned to the afternoon where majority MPs ganged up against Hon Magezi who took the podium to present procedural issue.

Instead he was heckled by mostly Ssemujju, Busiro South lawmaker Medard Segona, Lubaga South MP Moses Kasibante, Masala Municipality legislator Mathias Mpuuga and many more.

They kept interrupting raising points of order and procedure to the chairman when Magezi was making his presentation.

Until Hon Oboth reigned in on the rowdy audience and regretted why he was tasked to head this committee.

Magezi and his seconder Jinja West MP Moses Baryeku couldn’t stand the heat but opted to flee the hearing without making further presentation.
