Age Limit: Museveni convenes NEC crisis meeting excludes MPs

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is also the chairman of the ruling party has summoned National Executive Committee (NEC) members to State House to discuss the controversial age limit bill that is before Parliament.

However, the party legislators have been prohibited from attending the meeting.

The party communications officer Rogers Mulindwa announced on Thursday that, “this serves to inform the NRM members of the National Executive Council (NEC) excluding serving Members of Parliament, that there will be a meeting this Friday October 27 at State House Entebbe.”

The invited categories are; CEC Members, NRM Parliamentary flag bearers, NRM Flag bearers for District Chairpersons, NRM Municipal Mayors/ flag bearers,  EALA MPs who are NRM, The National Executive Committee members of all special organs,  all chairpersons of the NRM branches in the diaspora, thirty members of NRM Historical Leaders Forum, Chairpersons of the NRM District Conferences and NRM chairpersons of districts.

“All members are expected to report at the Party Headquarters in Kampala early enough for accreditation and thereafter leave for the meeting venue by 09:00am,” Mulindwa stated.

Debarring MPs, political observers say is aimed at convincing these members to support the age limit without hostility.

It should be recalled that 9 legislators of NRM have sternly opposed lifting of age cap saying it’s unconstitutional.
