A circular bullet entry wound on the left nosal bone and an exit wound was in the right occipital region measuring 3cm by 2cm were found on Edson Nasasira’s body, a postmortem report reveals.
The new findings drawdown Police’s earlier claims that the deceased was killed by a stone pelted at him by fellow protesters in Rukungiri Town last week.
In fact Police has since been detaining opposition leader Col Kizza Besigye, FDC Secretary for Mobilization Ingrid Turinawe and one of the party presidential candidates Patrick Amuriat waiting to charge them with murder of Nasasira.
The postmortem report obtained by this website indicates that it was done on the request of Yorokamu Bamwine the father of Late Nasasira on October 19.
It was conducted in presence of Robert Baguma Tweyambe, Timothy Musimenta and Barnabas Mugabe the mortuary attendant.
Bamwine identified the body of Nasasira as that if his son.
Findings
“Examined body of a male adult dressed in black t-shirt with a black jean trouser with belt having yellow and red strips, the following features were identified on the body,” the report reads in part.
There was bleeding from the right ear.
There were no marks of prior external scars on the body.
A circular bullet entry wound on the left nosal bonen about 0.5cm in diameter was identified.
There was no burning or tattooing around the wound.
Exit wound was in the right occipital region measuring 3cm by 2cm.
It was about 3cm from the occipital protuberance and 5cm from the right pinna.
The wound had lacerated edges and there was no cotton padding in the wound.
There was crepitus felt on the right occipital region and none fragments were missing.
In inserting a probe in the defect on the right occipital region there was lacerated brain tissue.
Upper arms and lower limbs were grossly normal.
Conclusion
Features are consistent with gunshot wounds/injury
Features of fracture right occipital bone (crepitus, and missing bone fragment).
Direction of injury was front to the back
Exit wound: There was missing bone fragments hence open fracture of the left occiput bone. Features of lacerated brain tissue revealed bleeding of the brain.
The report was compiled by Dr Julius Luyimbazi, the General Surgeon and medical superintendent Nyakibale Hospital, Dr Ronald Mbiine and Dr Stephen Gingo.
