Yesterday, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu held a delegates mobilization meeting in Mityana central with local opposition leaders to sensitize the public on measures to strengthen FDC party.
“For my case, am a leader to saw seeds to benefit people in future even if its for five centuries,” the general said elaborating on it more that for a country to leave in harmony for years, a leader must start with organizing political party that is firm and strong from the grass root rather than rush to take over for the sake of ruling.
Drawing from the above statement, the current FDC president lamented that, “President Museveni is in unsettled struggle to re-organise his leadership whilst the party which is now too late for him handle. He can hardly do it now but I did warn him not to loose focus on the goals that motivated us while still in the bush,” adding that that why he couldn’t move on with his system of leadership.
While at the coccus, Gen. Muntu put much emphasis on building a strong, united and cooperative political party (FDC) hence urged fellow leaders to re-organise local leadership that will benefit the country in future.
Gen. Muntu requested the public to grant him for his last term to continue building the party firmly and stronger on intangible aspects like values, principles and a new culture of belief. He further called upon delegates to learn from H.E Museveni’s challenges he is facing to have an organised party.
Strategically, the aspirant is to put all his efforts in building honest democracy, true justice, and fairness and transparency to cause effective transformation in Uganda.
Gen. Muntu further urged other leaders to follow his character, “Am strategic hence a democratic person when it comes to political leadership. Truth to be told, when I was defeated at Nambole, did I conflict with anyone that elections were unfair?” he asked the public and expressed that if it was about money and leadership, he wouldn’t have rejected the ministerial position chance President Museveni offered him.
The former army commander, Gen. Muntu expressed the honesty and trustworthy characters he exhibits, “For I must reveal the truth to people what I am, not for the sake of votes but for the public to understand me without discrimination of whether some are my voters or not. Even if they don,t vote me no matter their reasons but as long as they know who Mugisha Muntu is.”
In his effort to strengthen the political party, he urged leaders to re-organise local committees that are cooperative hence this will embrace unity for a peaceful leadership.
Talking about his background portfolio since FDC was established in 2004, “I started aspiring in 2009 and by then we did campaigns on media due short period of ten days. In 2010, I announced to contest as a flag bearer by then I was mobilization secretary hence I did the same for 2011 and 2015. In 2013 I chose Hon. Wafula who had never supported me at all for leaders of opposition (LOP) to teach the public that we can work together still even though not supporting each other. I did all this to saw a seed of democracy rather than having one leader that co-manages every other offices in the party and this was proved when I and Hon. Nandala Mafabi accepted the election results,” he explained.
He added that in 2012 after establishing the defiance committee he requested fellow leaders to put efforts together in building the party from the grass roots but was failed due to no support for over two years as they thought his strategies were breaking down the party.
As the campaigns progress the party has two activities going on, “we are looking for a great party president however there is also a struggle for ‘Togikwatako’ that’s why when it comes to leadership we must do what is to benefit the country in future now because its the only chance we have not worth waste,” he said.
