Voters collect signatures to recall MP Balyeku for supporting age limit removal

Jinja West constituents have began collecting signatures to move a vote of no confidence in their representative Hon Moses Balyeku whom they accuse of backing scrapping of presidential age limit law.

According to residents, they openly told Balyeku that they are against removal of this law which seeks to pave way for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s life presidency.

They say lawmaker is supposed to present the people’s views in Parliament but the person of Balyeku has instead represented his own ideas by supporting Museveni’s life rule.

However, the right to recall a Member of Parliament could only exist while the Movement political system was in operation.

This was amended in the 2005 constitution…Art84 (7).

The signals on ground are clear that the ordinary citizens are against age limit bill which was introduced in Parlaiment by Igara West MP Raphael Magezi.

The country is yet again in tension with anti-governemnt political actors rallying masses to rise against this bill.

So far one person died as Police tried to foil a rally organised by Opposition leaders in Rukungiri district on Wednesday.

Museveni last Friday assured the party caucus that age limit bill is his thing and no one can stop it.

He reiterated at that those against the bill are against him.

The President warned opposition protagonists that he all crash them should they threaten those with different opinions saying it is not ‘democracy.’
