Running a private business is no mean feat, especially for most of Kampala’s flashy corporate honchos who earn seven figure salaries accompanied with flashy fully fueled 4×4 rides, medical access to high end hospitals, huge per diem for travels and a host of other catchy freebies.
This was the life prominent communications consultant and media face, Simon Kaheru, was used to.
After years at British American Tobacco (BAT) and The New Vision, Simon joined the murky waters of private business starting up Media Analyst, a corporate communications agency.
Picking work for big companies like MTN and Umeme, Simon confidently sat uptight and started delivering services to his clients.
Years down the road, with some clients choosing to move to other agencies and a trail of scandals- especially the leaked Africell racist emails that were attributed to Kaheru’s sloppy handling of the Lebanese owned telecom company’s Orange take-over public relations, Simon’s Media Analyst started to falter.
That is water under bridge now. Simon has swallowed humble pie and joined Coca Cola Uganda (Century Bottling) where he is the head of communications and public affairs.
Having previously been named as a top contender for Vision Group’s CEO slot, it is believed Simon will put his 25 year experience to work at Coca Cola who have over the years lost a big chunk of their market share to re-organised Pepsi Cola (Crown Beverages),and others like Riham Soda (Hariss International).
This website has learnt Simon started work early last week and is slated for a series of trainings to inculcate him in the Coca Cola mode of operation.
Kaheru is also the Board Chairman of embattled and loss-making Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC).
