Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) will resume weekly prayers at party head offices beginning tomorrow (Tuesday) as a protest against a plan by the regime to amend the constitution.
The deputy spokesperson Paul Mwiru said the resumption hinges on a unanimous decision by the ruling party to sideline the population in the bid to review the constitution.
Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga had initially directed all legislators to consult their constituents.
But last Friday NRM caucus resolved that the voters should be marginalised only local leaders should be involved.
The decision follows hostility NRM lawmakers have been interfacing in the constituencies.
“On this note therefore, FDC will commence Tuesday prayers at the Headquarters starting from tomorrow 17th October 2017 at 10:00am at the Party Headquarters.
We need God’s intervention coupled with other efforts to enhance the “Togikwatako” campaign and it’s on this note that we call upon all Peace loving Ugandans irrespective of their affiliations to turn up in their numbers,” Mwiru said in Monday while addressing a weekly news conference
“FDC therefore requests all the party district chairpersons to begin holding prayers in their respective districts commencing tomorrow, and this will be done every Tuesday.”
Opposition political actors have urged their supporters to use all avenues to challenge this constitution amendment bill.
Mwiru informed journalists that the Party had stopped all its presidential ampaigns due to the “Togikwatako” campaign, but will now resume. “Hon. Patrick Amuriat is in Buganda, Gen. Muntu is also in Buganda, Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa is in Rubirizi, Mr. Matsiko Malcom is in North Buganda and Mr. Byamugisha has a free day in his schedule” he said.
