Aruu County lawmaker Hon Odonga Otto has asked the President governing council of International Parliamentary Union (IPU) to ban the Speaker of Uganda’s parliament from this forum because she doesn’t deserve to be in a league of democrats.
Otto tells IPU that Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga occassioned, permitted and presided over disgraceful arrest of 24 opposition MPs who were bundled on police truck and detained in different facilities.
During the scuffle, several legislators were injured and others are still hospitalised.
Kadaga is supposed to to present a paper to the incoming 137th sitting of IPU in Saint Petersburg, Russia on 15th October, “we pray this doesn’t see the light of the day,” Otto wrote.
On September 27 chaos erupted in the Parliamentary chambers when the 25 MPs defied Kadaga’s directive to leave the House after she suspended them for undiscipline.
Unknown security operatives in plain clothes raided the House and dragged the MPs in a shameful manner.
The legislators protested the reading of an age limit motion by Igara West MP Raphael Magezi.
