Presidential Advisor on security matters in Buganda Brig. Kasirye Ggwanga has described scrapping of age limit as a non issue but rather advised the population to focus on working hard to overcome hunger that is killing children.
Ggwanga, who was hosted Wednesday on local TV political talkshow told the moderator that amending the constitution isn’t debatable because it’s a must, “tujakugikwatako,” said the one star General meaning we will touch the constitution.
Like all bush war historocals who fought the previous regime to usher the NRA/M into power, Ggwanga said “we fought and now you are chasing us to go where?”
“We go and leave behind this rotten city? We go and leave behind stunted kids who are dying of hunger.”
He advised the population to ignore the age limit talk but massively engage in agriculture and produce food both for home consumption and commercial purposes.
Ggwanga’s remarks come at a time when some parts of the country have severely been hit by famine in which lives have been lost and other nationals forced to migrate.
The UPDF soldier is a renowned agriculturalist who recently burnt down a tractor accusing the owner of trying to grab his land.
Uganda is going through a tough political time as the ruling party that constitutes majority of lawmakers wants to amend the constitution to scrap the age cap of 75 years.
This is denounced by their rival colleagues who say it’s a ploy to have the President Yoweri Museveni rule for life.
Museveni is 73 years and with the current law, he will be unable to seek a re-election.
