Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura has no plans of retiring from the force.
He said even if his contract expires he will work as a crime preventer to ensure he crashes opposition protests.
The police chief made the revelations while presiding over a public lecture at Nkumba University a head of police week.
Kayihura said as long as anti-government faction led by opposition icon Kizza Besigye still wants to cause anarchy, he will also stay to foil their activities.
“As long as there are groups of people who want to sow anarchy and take us back to the dark days, I’ll be still available because I want to retire in a peaceful Uganda. I’ll also engage in community work and also write my memoirs”, Kayihura revealed.
He added that he will also venture more into research and Humanity as one of the interesting areas of research he would like to delve into when retires.
He however stated that though he would like to retire, he will keep on serving because there are groups of people who want to cause chaos and destabilize the country.
Kayihura who addressed students from the various universities across Uganda said that the sole aim of the Public lecture is to enhance a positive relationship and interaction with the student community in all universities stressing that as Police they are mandated to ensure that the students study in a secure, peaceful and conducive environment.
“The sole purpose of the Public lecture is to transform the mindset of the students to enable them have confidence and self-belief to deal with the problems that affect their communities.
Kayihura’s statement comes high on heels of a political crisis in the country as the ruling party seeks to amend the constitution to enable its chairman President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni contest again.
However this is perceived as a move for Museveni to rule for life.
