Majority of ordinary Ugandans (75 percent) favour mantaining of an age limit of 75 years for Presidential candidates, a report indicates.
The survey was conducted by a reputable research firm Afrobarometer late last year before the current heated debate.
It shows that 62% of the citizens strongly agreed with this position, 78% are among men, 81% come from the urban centers, 71% are women and 73% who support age limit are from upcountry.
Those number of those opposed to removal of age limit law is high among the literate (8 out of 10) and slightly above the illiterate (7 out of 10) who were interviewed.
In the ruling party where the frontiers of age limit bill come from, 67% of the adherents are against removal of this age limit law but the number is considerably weaker than among supporters of FDC whose number stands at 90%.
Support of age limit is greatest in Kampala- 90%, Central Region 86% and Northern Region stand at 67%.
