Exclusive: Speaker Oulanyah skips controversial age limit debate, travels to London

Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah who has been popularly been known for presiding over controversial motions in Parliament has skipped the contentious age limit bill that is set to be debated Tuesday.

This Website can exclusively report that Oulanyah is in UK, London on official duty which was planned 3 months earlier.

“I am in London and this was planned 3 months back,” Oulanyah told TrumpetNews.

This private members bill was generated by MP Raphael Magezi who wants the constitution revisited and  age cap of 75 years scrapped off.

This now confirms that his superior Speaker Rebecca Kadaga will chair the House.

Earlier she would miss out particularly when disputable bills would be tabled on the floor of Parliament.

Earlier the age limit bill missed out on the order paper but it had emerged that the paper has been amended.

The opposition MPs have caused uneasiness in the House donned with red ribbons as an expression of discontent over the age limit removal.

Several security organs have surrounded Parliament reminding Ugandans of history in 1966 when President Milton Obote ordered military to take over The August House before abrogating the constitution.

Majority of Ugandans view this bill as a machination to handover life presidency to President Yoweri Museveni who was set to retire after 4 years.
