Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has received heaps of praises from members of the public for a bold decision to suspend ABSTV for airing offensive content.
Most of those who took to social media platforms to commend the regulatory body are parents who feared their children would replicate what they watch on that television.
The media house belongs to city pastor Augustine Yiga.
“I like that all the things aired have been demonic,” Vincent Amanyire commented on Facebook.
Ronald Juma also took to Facebook and wrote; “It is a better decision.”
Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) communications officer Allan Ssempebwa said the suspension was long overdue.
On Tuesday UCC issued a directive stopping ABS Television from broadcasting on all platforms.
According to a letter written by the UC ED Godffrey Mutabazi the suspension hinges on several attempts to have ABSTV harmonise and modify its programs to the required standards.
“Reference is made to several warnings served on ABSTV for repeated breach of the law and the minimum broadcasting standards,” Mutabazi’s letter read.
UCC gave the media house an altimatum of 60 days to receive a convincing presentation on the measure instituted to harmonise and modify its programs to comply with law or risk revoking the broadcasting license without further notice.
The Television had been airing offensive content which has sparked off public outcry.
