Mirundi: Bank of Uganda boss Bagyenda deserves to be in jail

Bagyenda

Presidential adviser on media Tamale Mirundi has wondered why executive director of supervision in the Central Bank Justine Bagyenda still walks scot-free.

Adding that she should behind bars after deliberately neglecting to supervise Crane Bank leading to its collapse before it was sold off to DFCU Bank in January.

It would later emerge last month that Bank of Uganda (BoU) administration filed an application in the Commercial Court accusing defunct Crane Bank proprietor Sudhir Ruparelia of embezzling over shs 300 billion from the financial establishment.

However it has since been established that BoU failed its roles as a regulator.

Mirundi appearing on a weekly talk show on NBS on Tuesday he reiterated that businessman Sudhir is being victimised by a small clique of mafia who are targeting his property.

He wondered how Bagyenda whose role is to supervise all commercial banks in the country could be able to attend Crane Bank functions but failed to supervise it.

“The woman would attend Crane Bank launches but couldn’t play her role as a supervisor does that really make sense?” Mirundi said.

He added that Bagyenda should be arrested and grilled to answer for incompetence that led to collapse of such a huge institution.
