FDC president Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu has picked his expression of interest and nomination forms to seeking a re-election.
On Monday the former army commander told media at FDC head offices In Nanjjanankumbi that he was handing over office to party official Alice Alaso, “As from today am delegating Hon. Alice Asianut Alaso for the period I will be out of office”.
“I have picked nomination forms. I would like to thank the media for the coverage in my term. There used to be speculation when I came in that FDC was not going to last but here we are, my term is done and the FDC is stable much more than before.” He remarked as he was joyfully leaving to embark on the 90days canvassing for support as he seeks a re-election in November.
“We are here to build a party that will outlive us. It is difficult to change the direction of a country without changing the culture of our people. The challenge we have are leaders who say one thing and practice or do the other. This must come to an end.”
He went on to inform the public that “FDC is the only party so far where we compete at the top and we remain stable. We can’t give what we do not have.”
Muntu further highlighted about the turbulence his leadership went through when he had taken over office.
“Turbulence simply shows you that you still have weaknesses but the most important is having mechanisms to resolve the disagreements that there may be”.
He confirmed his rationale for wanting to come back “I am coming back for continuity, when we came in we had a blank page, the party has functional institutions as of now. We have built a culture and it will subsequently be built in the entire country.”
“You can’t give what you do not have” He concluded and invited the entire public to watch and follow as events are going to be unfolding as the campaigns start.
The FDC delegates’ conference will sit on November 17 to elect a new party president. So far three aspirants have expressed interest.
