Boda Boda wars linked to Kayihura, Tumukunde

Two powerful UPDF Generals Kale Kayihura and Henry Tumukunde have been linked to boda boda clashes in which 6 people were gravely injured and over 40 motorcycles vandalised.

The clashes occurred over the weekend in Wakaliga and Nateete suburbs of Kampala where two warring boda boda factions attacked each other.

According to the mediator Dan Kazibwe aka Raga Dee, the two groups were scheduled to meet and form a SACCO so as they receive financial support from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The two hostile factions are Boda Boda 2010 which is reportedly allied to Police Inspector Gen Kayihura while Boda Boda Century is loyal to Security Minister Gen Tumukunde.

While Boda Boda Century gathered at Wakaliga to meet the chief guest Kampala Minister Betty Kamya, a panga, stick wielding charged crowd unleashed brutality on Tumukunde’s group.

While police authorities have remained tight-lipped on the gruesome incident, leaders of Boda Boda Century accuse Kayihura’s civilian aide Abdallah Kitata of spearheading the attack.

One boda boda rider who asked to remain unnamed said that the contestation is that Kayihura’s faction wants to control the SACCO.

“Because they get a lot money from Kayihura they are saying they should have top posts on this SACCO,” the rider said.

It is no public secret that the two UPDF senior officers are sworn enemies.

Kayihura has always used boda boda riders, taxi drivers, traders to gather intelligence fro police through ‘community policing.’

With the appointment of Tumukunde as security minister he has penetrated Kayihura’s cells.
