Uganda Cranes midfielder Geoffrey Massa has been shot and injured by patrol police in Kakajo, Bweyogerere a Kampala suburb.
According to NTV journalist Sudhir Byaruhanga, Police found his car Toyota Land Cruiser registration number UAY 627B parked by the road side at Kakajjo (Bweyogerere) late in the night, asked him to open and he refused. He knocked the police bike as he tried to speed off, which prompted the officers to shoot at the car.
“A female friend who he was dropping in his car died on the spot,” Sudhir reported on his social media pages.
Sudhir adds that police was prompted to shoot because Massa’s car looked suspicious.
Massa was rushed to the nearby hospital Gwatiro in Bweyogerere.
Police spokesman Asan Kasingye confirmed the incident but denied that Massa’s girlfriend died instantly.
“The lady is alive in and being treated, but the other events are true,” Kasingye said.
By press time Massa had been discharged.
Kasingye’s junior Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) publicist Emillian Kayima has since released a statement.
