Fiery former army commander Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu has spilled secrets of his last meeting with his former Commander in Chief (CiC) Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
TrumpetNews can reliably report that while presiding over the FDC NEC meeting on May 31 at the party head offices, Muntu told members how Museveni openly told him how he was not interested in the legacies of most of the world’s revered leaders, Nelson Mandela and MahtamA Gandhi.
Mandela went down in the history books as an African leader who opposed the colonial autocracy, jailed for 27 years, released and ruled South Africa for one term before handing over power peacefully.
Ganghi until now is referred to as the Father of the Nation by Indians after applying non violent means to oppose the British rule and attain independence.
Muntu is quoted to have told FDC NEC that in 2005 after Museveni chaired a meeting seeking to abolish presidential term limits at the International Conference centre, “I sought for an appointment to meet Mr Museveni, he accepted. I went to meet him at State House and I told him how it was important for him to retire peacefully and leave a legacy like Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi.”
A visibly defiant Museveni shot back at the army chief.
“He replied and asked who had told me that he was interested in those legacies. That is the last time I met him and we completely part ways,” Muntu added.
This news site understands that Muntu made the revelations while telling FDC leaders that they must always uphold the principles they stand for.
Muntu raised Museveni’s comments as an example to show people that at the time the party leadership changes, he will never at any point compromise his principles.
Muntu rarely washes his dirty linen with Museveni in public.
President Museveni’s spokesman Don Wanyama when contacted said he will not respond to Muntu, arguing that the FDC president should first own up the quotes.
Muntu’s revelation comes high on heels of a protracted debate on amending article 102 of the constitution to lift presidential age limit to pave way for Museveni’s life rule.
