Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura has made a reassurance that no disruptions will be made as illegal structures are demolished at Centenary Park.
Kayihura was appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authority and State Enterprise (COSASE) which is currently investigating conflicts over the Park between KCCA and Nalongo Estate Limited (NEL).
The IGP was summoned by the committee to explain why the police failed to respond to a request by KCCA to provide security while executing demolishing of illegal structures erected at the park.
KCCA executive director had previously told the committee that she failed to effect the court order by razing the illegal structures because of the disruptions from the Park overseers.
He efforts of seeking police backup were unsuccessful as Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) commander Frank Mwesigwa never responded to her request.
Kayihura explained to the committee that at the time this happened he was out of the country but assured members that the police will ensure that legal orders are upheld.
“All institutions should go ahead and do their work immediately, working together within the law with a human face,” Katuntu ruled.
Katuntu warned former Kampala Mayor, Godfrey Nyakana against mobilizing goons to sabotage work at the park that he risks being handled by the law.
