FDC kicks off hunt for Muntu’s replacement

(L-R) Ekanya, Muntu and Muntu. The trio contested for FDC president in 2012

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Electoral Commission (EC) has issued an election road map for party presidential polls come November 17.

The guidelines seen by TrumpetNews though not conclusive (NEC likely to make amendments) indicate that tomorrow Tuesday, the party administration will release a notice inviting suitable, willing and potential applicants interested for the vacancy of party president.

So far only two FDC leaders have exhibited interests of contesting for the top office.

Moses Byamugisha a youth leader and a close ally of founder Kizza Besigye, recently announced his bid to a group of party supporters he hosted at his multi-million pad in Namugongo.

The current president Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu earlier at the beginning of this year declared he would seek a reelection.

Muntu continues to face a protracted criticism from a section FDC stalwarts who subscribe to Col Besigye political ideology of defiance.

Since his inception as FDC leader, his style of leadership has been mocked with many branding him a boardroom politician whose creed can’t work in a nation where the ruling President displays dictatorship.

With calmness Muntu highly believes in organizational capabilities not street politics.

The roadmap further shows that registration and picking of nomination forms will last for a month from July 10 to 12th August.

14th and 15th August, FDC shall nominate presidential candidates, and campaigns will kick off on 17th same month until November.

A delegates conference, the highest decision making organ will sit to choose a new leader on November 17.

The elected president will be sworn in next day.

Although FDC secretary general Hon Nandala Mafabi has not come out openly to declare his quest, speculation is that he will again vie for the seat.

He was defeated by the incumbent in 2012 but later contested the result citing irregularities.

A commission headed by city human rights lawyer Ladislaus Rwakafuzi was constituted to investigate Mafabi’s claims.
