President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has queried police chief Gen Kale Kayihura’s involvement in politics.
Museveni assured a group of youth vividly loyal to the IGP that his role is to monitor the security of the country as head of the police force.
How Kayihura enters in politics to mobilise for the ruling party is something the President is yet to come to terms with.
Museveni dropped the bombshell yesterday at Kasangati Resort in Kyadondo East constituency as he campaigned for Sitenda Sebalu, the party flagbearer ahead of tomorrow’s by-election.
Before rallying supporters at the main rally, the NRM bigwig first met a group of Taxi and boda boada riders to listen to their grievances and why they continue supporting the opposition in every election particularly Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
This group of charged youth assured the President that he is surrounded by a clique of hungry leaders who never deliver his pledges to the electorate but rather act to suffocate the government programs.
“That is the reason those people around you never want you to closely interact with your people, “a youth leader openly told the President.
These youth however heaped praises on the IGP who has tremendously organised them and offered them financial support.
“That is why he abandoned the walk to work protests orchestrated by our neighbour (Besigye),” a youth leader added.
Besigye resides in Kasangati and it has since been dubbed ‘state house.’
For 11 years Kyadondo voters have consistently elected opposition leaders.
In his response, Museveni blamed these youth for having not benefited from government because of the wrong choices made while casting their ballot.
He said opposition leader will not work towards the progress of the country but rather sink it.
On Kayihura, he reassured the NRM supporters that its him the Commander in Chief who ordered him to talk to the notorious youth to neutralize the famous walk to work.
“Oyo Kayihura nze namusundika,” he said in Luganda meaning that I sent Kayihura.
He however told the crowds that the IGP is not a politician therefore he shouldn’t involve himself in politicking but concentrate on his job of managing security.
