Go slow on our land: Nakaseke residents tell politicians, MP Luttamaguzi

Residents of Nakaseke used the Edd Mubarak celebrations to put area politicians like the

 Nakaseke South MP Semakula Luttamaguzi and some local politicians have been warned by land owners in the area   to desist from provoking land wrangles in the area.

Speaking after Edd Mubarak prayers, residents took exception to MP Luttamaguzi’s remarks on various radio stations which he uses to promote propaganda that some individuals are being supported by soldiers to grab land.

Residents gave testimonies that they have all willingly sold their land without any coercion, contrary to allegations being made by MP Luttamaguzi and some local politicians.

MP Luttamaguzi was particularly mentioned by residents as the architect of a campaign on local radio stations where he goes around spreading rumours that unnamed indviduals are using soldiers to grab land in the area.

Nakaseke has been at the epicentre of land disputes but Spa Financial Services, an investment firm, has been changing this trend by legally acquiring land on a willing seller-willing buyer basis with residents saluting the peaceful land acquisitions.

Speaking after Edd Mubarak prayers in Nabbika parish, Nakaseke sub-county, Nakaseke, locals indicated that they are willing to sell land to genuine land buyers and praised Spa Financial Services for its role in developing the local community.

Mukungu Muzamir,one of the residents who has benefitted from selling land to Spa Financial Services, said the area was previously bogged down by unemployment but was now happy that the company is providing jobs for locals.

“With Spa Financial Services, we now have over 1000 local residents working on projects like clearing the land. Residents who were previously not making any money are now happy because they are able to fend for their families,”Muzamir said.

Spa Financial Services has so far acquired 300 acres is in the process of finalising the acquisition of an additional 200 titles,all on the basis of peacefully negotiating

Betty Namuyanja, another beneficiary of Spa Financial Services’ land arrangement, rebuked politicians like Luttamaguzi, saying the MP has been  spreading lies  over land acquisition.

She praised  Spa Financial Services for setting an example by genuinely acquiring land in the Nakaseke areas.

 “If someone what’s to sell his or her land, that person has a right to do that and politicians should not try to stop sell of land on a willing buyer, willing seller basis,”Namuyanja said.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Spa Financial Services donated a cow and 100kgs of rice to 10 mosques in Nabbika parish, Nakaseke sub-county, Nakaseke district.

Delivering a sermon at Kyambogo Masqid, Sheik Muhamud Ssebuliba urged Muslims against sabotaging development projects in their area by encouraging peaceful settlement of disagreements as preached by the Quran.

“We should embrace development and work for unity. We should not go back to the bad behavior since the Ramadan month has ended,” Sheik Ssebuliba said.

Nakaseke LCIII Chairman Mr John Mugerwa thanked Spa Financial Services for donating the rice and beef for Muslims at the different Masgid in Nakaseke Subcounty.

“We are blessed to get development partners who have volunteered to maintain our roads as a give back to the community, including the donation of rice and beef to residents for the Eid Mubarak festivities,”Mugerwa said.

As part of a wider CSR,Spa Financial Services has also sponsored construction of a  road in the area-connecting villages that were previously disturbed by a poor road network.
