The battle lines have been drawn. Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has unveiled an ‘enormous’ budget geared towards gaining public acceptance and eventually taking over from President Yoweri Museveni.
The powerful opposition party approved its shs 15 billion budget meant for 2017/18 financial year on Saturday during a National Council meeting convened at the head offices in Najjanankumbi, Kampala.
According to FDC secretary general Nandala Mafabi, the party will spend:
Shs 5.9bn on workshops and training leaders, Shs 2.1bn to popularize the party, Shs 310m on November 2017 delegates conference.
Funding
Mafabi highlighted that party lawmakers will raise shs 180m, shs 1.135 billion will be come from Electoral Commission, sales of party cards and publicity materials will generate shs 1billion.
FDC expects shs 400m from donors and shs 12.3b will be raised through intensive funding.
“A party is not just a box or a book. A party consists of members, so members are the owners of the party and for it to be able to succeed, members must be there to make it succeed. They must recruit, run the party physically and where it involves money, they must contribute,” Mafabi said.
FDC has previously faced a huge financial crisis and it has most times failed to conduct political activities.
