In a calculated attempt, independent candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has been distributing material things to residents of Kyadondo East luring them to vote him come June 26.

With the by –election on its peak, Bobi Wine’s agents have been filmed visiting homesteads in the constituency donating a quarter of sugar, piece of soap and a roll of toilet paper to induce voters to elect the singer into the 10th parliament.

On Tuesday, Amooti Omubaranguzi who leads a popular comedy group Amarula was filmed on TV using these things to solicit votes for his colleague.

However, this act breaches electoral guidelines and Bobi Wine’s opponents could hinge on it to challenge his victory in Court in case he is elected.

“That is a piece of evidence a serious opponent would use to challenge his candidature,” an election observer said.

When this website contacted Electoral Commission (EC) Jotham Taremwa for a comment he said he hadn’t watched the video footage.

Bobi Wine faces stiff competition from his party member Apollo Kantinti after he (Bobi Wine) went against the FDC decision to contest as an independent candidate.

The Kyadondo East parliamentary seat fell vacant after the nullification of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Apollo Kantinti’s election by High court Judge Isabirye Kaweesa, on grounds that the Electoral Commission did not comply with the electoral laws.

Subsequently, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate William Sitenda Sebalu, filed an election petition in which he accused the EC of violating electoral laws. Sebalu also claimed that the election was characterized by voter bribery among other irregularities.

The music star thus picked nomination papers as independent prompting opposition members to rap him as traitor, power hungry dinosaur and inexperienced politician who only deserves to use his music to spread his message but not parliament.

Lately Bobi Wine has been attracting huge crowds on his rallies and speculations are high he will win with a landslide.
