Police chief Gen Kale Kayihura will return earlier than planned from an official trip to Turkey due to land skirmishes in Northern Uganda that have left scores dead and others terribly injured.
Clashes erupted last week between two tribes of Madi from Juka in Adjumani district and Acholi in Apaa, Amuru district as government authorities are struggling to end the bloodbath.
A source told this website that Kayihura, whose absence from the public has triggered speculation that he is bedridden abroad, had earlier wanted to jet into the country last Saturday and straight away head to the north to resolve the conflict.
“He asked his personal assistant Abraham Sagal whether the situation in Apaa was so tense and needed his intervention,” a source said.
Adding that, Sagal advised his boss that together with other authorities from sister security agencies he would handle the crisis.
“Sagal told him to stay and finish his business in Turkey,” a source added.
This website has independently established that Kayihura had wanted to extend his official trip until the end of this week but he has decided to cut it short and return mid week since the Apaa crisis continues to deepen.
With such ugly incidents happening in the country, a section of the public is questioning the whereabouts of the IGP as government struggles to restore sanity.
Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and Lands Minister Betty Amongi on Monday travelled to meet the two warring communities to end the standoff.
While in the area news broke out how police shot dead a man in Pabbo trading center in Amuru district.
This website has further gathered that IGP Kayihura left Turkey and he is currently in UK meeting authorities who are willing to donate equipment including two choppers to Uganda police.
But we couldn’t independently verify this information.
Unconfirmed reports also suggested that Kayihura went to India to seek medical treatment.
Police spokesman Asan Kasingye who talked to this website laughed off the claims saying, “treat that as fake news. IGP is in Turkey and he also signed an MoU with Turkey police.”
Kasigye has since issued a press statement refuting stories which appeared in local dailies and also on social media saying that Kayihura is terribly sick.
“Those are false stories invented by people with fertile imaginations. There is no iota of truth in those stories,” Kasingye wrote.
He warned that if such malicious stories don’t stop police will take action.
But a trusted source revealed to TrumpetNews that Kayihura was unwell at a time he travelled to Turkey last Tuesday.
“He is in Turkey on official duty but he is sick,” he said.
None of his pictures since he went to Turkey has been posted anywhere to disprove the rumours.
