President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has opened a can of worms on District Health Officers, branding them disease promoters.
A vividly irritated Museveni wondered why these health officials have refused to implement the NRM strategy of disease control. “We have these district health officers. I call them district sickness officers,” Museveni told a conference which was attended by a couple of envoys from foreign missions.
He made the scathing attack while launching a first track initiative to end HIV in Uganda at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Tuesday morning.
“All they like is to see Ugandans flooding hospitals. So their job is to promote sickness.”
Referring to them as ‘these people’, the President expressed optimism that Uganda would be rid of a number of diseases if the health officials became more engaging on how they implement the immunization projects.
“Maybe it is because they can’t avoid it, or they just dont care, leaving many people in a mess”
There have been reports that officials at the district of level tend to divert government logistics for personal interests.
“Why don’t they people listen to the NRM strategy of preventing sickness?” The President lamented.
He said that these officials tend to be worried when the citizens are not going to hospitals for medical care.
He later gave a testimony on how he came to learn of the existence of the dangerous epidermic disease AIDS.
