UPC president Jimmy Akena’s office administrator Higenyi Kemba has implored his boss for talks on recent reports that he is advocating for his (Akena) ouster.
Higenyi was quoted in the media last week as saying that Akena should handover leadership on grounds that he sold the party to the NRM regime.
Not so long ago, Higenyi was suspended from the party for what the Secretary General (SG) Fred Ebil termed as insubordination and lack of accountability.
In dramatic shift of events, Higenyi and his followers called a press conference to denounce Akena.
He alleged that Akena has been holding secret meetings with President Yoweri Museveni to finalise his creepy plan.
“Mr Akena is hereby asked to publically disassociate himself from NRM or resign immediately. We cannot accept a situation where one is wearing yellow inside but masquerading in a red shirt. UPC is pure and open whoever is talking in the dark should leave the party,” Higenyi told the media.
Akena however, said he was unaware of coup plans.
Speaking to TrumpetNews on Tuesday morning, party secretary general Ebil said that there are arrangements for Higenyi to meet Akena.
“He has been requesting to meet the party president who has been busy but the two are likely to meet either today or tomorrow,” Ebil said.
Ebil denied that UPC is not in any way dealing with the regime as suggested by Higenyi.
He added that Higenyi after meeting Akena a decision will be taken on whether he faces disciplinary committee or not.
During the 2016 presidential campaigns in Lango region, President Museveni said NRM was in talks with Mr Akena’s UPC.
Mr Akena insisted that the talks with NRM were just part of a series of engagements with different political parties and organisations that had fielded presidential candidates in the 2016 elections.
After the elections, Mr Museveni, who won, appointed Mr Akena’s wife Ms Betty Amongin as Lands minister.
