Security at Entebbe State House has turned away journalists who travelled with lawmakers to cover the proceedings of a meeting between President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and The Katuntu team.
The parliamentary committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) chaired by the Bugweri County MP, Abdu Katuntu is probing Museveni over his role in authorising shs 6b cash as bonus to Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) managers and a number of top government officials.
Katuntu and his team have been meeting all witnesses involved in the initiating, soliciting and finally disbursing the staggering amount to 42 civil servants who are already on government payroll.
Museveni, according to reports is the last witness to be probed before Katuntu handles over the findings to Parliament.
Previously, the probing sessions were open to the media where key officials from government, including the ‘chief initiator’ URA boss Doris Akol, KCCA ED Jeniffer Musisi, UNRA head Allen Kagina, former attorney general Fredrick Ruhindi were questioned live on televisions.
On why it was a closed session, this time round, State House communication official Lindah Nabusayi first told TrunmpetNews that, “The President’s meetings with Parliament committees are always closed.”
But the Presidential spokesman Don Wanyama when contacted said that, “the MPs didn’t notify us that they were coming with journalists because protocol requires to have their names for security clearance.”
He added that however, State House will issue a statement immediately after the meeting and also Katuntu will address the media on what has transpired at Entebbe.
