Andrew Mwenda is’nt new to controversy. One can even label him a known critic anything he deems unfair to himself or for public interest..
Mwenda runs the Independent publications and is a visiting lecturer in top universities in the United States.
It is also said Andrew has shared business interests with jailed Mathew Kanyamunyu.
This was the case this morning when the motor mouthed journalist learnt about the closure of his incarcerated friend, Mathew Kanyamunyu’s Quantum Logistics
Just 13 million?
The Uganda Revenue Authority this morning closed off Quantum Logistics in Bugolobi over tax arrears amount to 13 million shillings.
The closed company belongs to Mathew Kanyamunyu who is currently in custody at Luzira prison on charges of allegedly shooting and killing community worker, Kenneth Akena.
The closure came after months of negotiation in which URA says Quantum Logistics showed no signs of paying off the money.
Andrew reacts
Mwenda who in his usually un-bothered but intelligent tone took to Twitter to express his displeasure with URA’s closure of his friend’s company.
Andrew is a tight friend of the Mathew Kanyamunyu and was among the first visitors to drive to Jinja Road Police Station to check on his friend a day after he had been held by police.
Tweeting from his account, Mwenda wrote “URA owes you a withholding tax refund of Shs 300m. You owe URA VAT of 13m. URA comes and closes your business! They say it is the law!”
The tweet which got various re-tweets and elicited support from some of Andrew’s followers showed a disappointed man over the tax man’s action.
Public sympathizes
Uganda Revenue Authority said they had reached a point of failed negotiations before the closure of Quantum Logistics.
The public though feeling sympathetic over Mwenda’s tweet reacted with a show of support for Mwenda.
Samuel Muchope advised URA to “behave” while another follower using 21st century polymath as his handle advised Andrew how “the law is an ass”.
