A relative of fallen Assistant Inspector of Police- AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi says as family they feel there is good possibility that security bugged their house in Kulambiro, a Kampala surbub with spying equipment.
This relative who preferred not to be mentioned because of the sensitivity of this matter and several threats they have received as a family told this news site that they believe the surveillance gadgets were installed in the house by security the day Kaweesi was gunned down while he left his home for work.
“Some security agents got stuck in the house and couldn’t allow anyone to notice what they were doing inside,” this relative said.
This relative again implored TrumpetNews not to be named.
On that fateful day of 17th March, a couple of investigators from police and its sister security agents spent a whole day at Kulambiro constructing the crime of scene, others combed Kaweesi’s house, talked to family members and neighbours with hope of ascertaining leads on the motive his assassination.
Top police officers including the IGP Gen Kale Kayihura were present at the crime scene until evening.
“We still don’t understand the motive of being surveilled on,” a relative added.
On whose orders the security men acted to install spying gadgets still remain unknown.
Whether it was police that wired the house, TrumpetNews couldn’t establish.
Our efforts of reaching police spokesman Asan Kasingye for a comment were by press time unsuccessful as he couldn’t be reached. We think he was busy organising a press conference for his boss Kayihura.
Asked how did the family find out that they were under surveillance, this relative said that there is something unusual that happens especially at night.
“There is very strange noise that is made by unseen devices in the house. And also the there are some specific areas in the house which have totally lost network,” the relative added.
When this website contacted a security expert about how to search for spy bugs, he first declined to comment until we assured him his name wouldn’t surface anywhere.
“Wait until dark, switch off the lights, and shine a strong flashlight at mirrors. Move the light thoroughly over the surface of the mirror. Any bugging device hidden there will be revealed.
When the house is empty and traffic noise outside has subsided, walk around and switch off all electrical appliances, such as the refrigerator and computers. Be still and listen. Walk around the house quietly and listen out for any soft buzzing or bleeping,” he advised.
Kaweesi murder probe has become sensitive to an extent that many people fear to be quoted.
High Court last week barred a section of the media from reporting any details of the investigations.
These media houses and their editors were sued by police chief IGP through the Attorney General William Byaruhanga.
TrumpetNews is following up this surveillance claim by Kaweesi family and we promise to bring more details.
