Exclusive:  Kayihura’s ex aide Baroza cited in shs 1bn fake gold deal

In things; Baroza

Police crime intelligence directorate is investigating Jonathan Baroza, former personal assistant to the IGP Kale Kayihura over his involvement in fake gold deal in which victims were conned shs 1billion.

According to our source in police who asked not to be mentioned, Baroza collaborated with city businessman Jack Pemba and executed the mission at the start of this year.

The victims were foreigners who tried to pursue Pemba and registered a case at CPS vide GEF 29/2017 but until today they have never seen justice.

But Instead Barooza shielded Pemba and his cohort to an extent that they fled the country after finding out that detectives from Crime Intelligence had laid a clandestine move to arrest them.

Everyone knew that Pemba whose nationality is questioned would never come back to Uganda.

Shockingly, Pemba sneaked back last week aided by Baroza who currently holds no office.

“How can an officer who is deployed nowhere have the powers to bring back a criminal in the country,” a source asked.

Adding that, because he (Baroza) was attached to the head of police’s office  he suffocated the fake gold case registered at CPS.

The case has now been taken over by Crime Intelligence Director Col Ndahura Atwooki.

Baroza was sacked in the recent police reshuffle and sent to Human Resource Directorate pending course.

His sacking came after the death of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

A source added that he (Baroza) is among the top officers who have used the office of the IGP to amass wealth through collaborating, hobnobbing and shielding criminal gangs in the country.

According to an intelligence report seen by this Website on how fake gold deals are executed, the sellers use security operatives to elude arrests and later share the loot.

The death of Kaweesi has exposed police as very rotten institution with its senior officers at the vanguard of committing crime.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni last month directed Kayihura to clean the police because it has been infiltrated by criminals.

Another source revealed that sensing danger Baroza used his power to manipulate the head of Police Standards Unit (PSU) Fortunate Habyara to recall the gold case file (GEF 29/2017) from CPS.

“In fact the director of crime intelligence got that file from PSU,” a source said.

However, TrumpetNews couldn’t independently verify these claims.

We have further learnt that Col Ndahura has launched a hunt for Jack Pemba any time could face arrest.

But the renowned city socialite has since gone into hiding.

It remains unclear if he has fled the country again.

“If crime intelligence succeeds with its investigations heads will roll in the force,” a source said.

Police spokesman AIGP Asan Kasingye couldn’t be reached for a comment.

About cleaning the police as the President directed, Kasingye earlier told us that it is a process and some officers were being investigated. He however, declined to give us names.

Col Ndahura’s known phone numbers couldn’t go through.
