Exclusive: Police stuck with Musumba’s machete wielding suspects

Musumba after casting her vote

Police has failed to charge FDC radical youth who perpetrated election violence in the just concluded Kamuli Municipality MP by election in which Salaam Musumba lost miserably to NRM candidate Rahema Watongola.

The election which took place last week went ahead in books as very chaotic, this time with FDC supporters at the vanguard of causing bloodshed.

These stonehearted extremists attacked police officers and ripped them apart accusing them of conniving with regime apologists to rig elections and also bribing voters.

However, accusers failed to present an iota of evidence pinning their opponents of engaging in electoral malpractices but rather justified their actions on hearsay.

The violence took a dramatic twist when security apprehended FDC candidate Musumba and impounded her car which was full of bow and arrows, knives, batons and pangas.

Musumba told police that the rudimentary tools would be used for self defence as authorised by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Police further rounded up a gang of Musumba’s supporters who were suspected to have wanted to use these weapons to harm their rivals.

Strange

Impeccable sources in security told TrumpetNews that it was later discovered that the thugs incarcerated are not FDC supporters neither members.

Weapons which found in Musumba’s car

“They confessed that they didn’t belong to FDC or even reside in Kamuli district,” a source said.

These suspects don’t speak native Lusoga but rather Swahili and Lugisu.

“They told police that they were hired by Musumba from the towns of Mbale, Busia, and Tororo. Ferried them to her constituency to perpetuate violence,” a source said.

Asked how much, the suspects said they had agreed shs 10000 with food and transport catered for.

A source added that police has failed to find a charge to slap on these thugs.

Some are still in custody in Kamuli while others were taken to Nalufenya detention centre.

This development was confirmed by director of operations Asuman Mugyenyi but didn’t divulge more details.

Police spokesman Asan Kasingye was unavailable by the time of filing this report  as his known telephone number couldn’t go through.
