Kayihura: I am surprised First Lady Janet forgave Nyanzi

UCC ED Mutabazi welcomes Kayihura earlier in the day

Police chief Gen Kale Kayihura has expressed shock at First Lady Janet Museveni’s decision to pardon vulgarist Makerere University don Stella Nyanzi.

Janet last week told the local media that she had forgiven Nyanzi despite her rotten cyber outburst she unleashed undermining the Minister of Education.

Nyanzi however, was summoned at the CID head offices in Kibuli to answer charges of computer misuse.

The Makerere University researcher had since been using her popular social networking site (facebook) page to reveal how security was trailing her until her arrest last Friday.

Yesterday the ‘vulgar kingpin’ was charged and remanded to Luzira prison for insulting the person of the President that he is like ‘a pair of buttocks.’

Nevertheless, her arrest aroused countrywide anger condemning Janet as being the mastermind.

But the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Tuesday afternoon while addressing the media at UCC head offices in Bugolobi clarified that he ordered for the academician’s arrest.

“If there is someone to blame for arresting Nyanzi then it is me,” Kayihura said.

Adding that, “I am surprised the First Lady forgave her but that doesn’t bind police from doing its work. Nyanzi committed a crime, and must face the law.”

“She has abused internet on a several occasions,” Kayihura said.

He denied that Janet ordered for Nyanzi’s arrest, “we don’t need to be ordered by the First Lady. She came out in public and said she had forgiven her.”

The police boss revealed that the CID has had several cases of computer misuse against Nyanzi since last year and it was the right time to arrest her.

“We had to support the regulator (UCC) in her efforts and it’s what we did. If you want to bash anybody for arresting Nyanzi like you have always done, do it to me.”
