Kaweesi murder: Police heads given 10 extra commandos

RIP Kaweesi

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura has effected a proposal recommending deployment of 10 more bodyguards to each senior officer at the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP).

Kayihura proposed to beef up security of these officials after the assassination of police publicist Andrew Felix Kaweesi together with his driver and highly trained bodyguard.

Although the killers are still at large, Kaweesi’s successor AIGP Asan Kasingye revealed to the media that he has been receiving death threats.

Presidential Advisor on media affairs Tamale Mirundi said that by threatening Kasingye, the killers are sending a signal that they could invade the police once more.

Trumpet News has learnt that on Monday, through the directorate of operations led by Asuman  Mugyenyi, he assigned 10 highly trained commandos to guard the directors.

Previously AIGPs were driven in one car, a body guard and a driver. That is how Kaweesi’s killers managed to overpower the trio and executed them without any hurdles.

They have been given a lead patrol car, 8 gun wielding mean looking men in uniform seated behind with another one guard who sits on the co-driver’s chair,” a source said.

Indeed on Friday morning the head of criminal investigations department (CID) Grace Akullo was sighted in Ntinda, a Kampala surbub being driven in a Toyota Prado number UP 4824 with a lead car.

Previously Akullo was moving in a double cabin pick up with only 2 body guards on board.

It is coming to a month since the demise of Kaweesi with police tight-lipped on the progress of investigations.

However, a number of suspects have been arrested with no incriminating evidence.

Police is grappling with soaring crime rate across the country.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expressed distress while eulogising departed Kaweesi saying the force has been infiltrated by criminals; “Kale clean the police,” he directed.
