A suspected rebel outfit has warned residents of Masaka region and the vicinity of a full scale raid and terror attacks planned for next week April 10.
This unknown group sounded the warning of the imminent invasion this afternoon in a message naming some prominent citizens on their hit-list
The said documents were circulated all over the region last night.
The start of this week saw skirmishes breaking out between locals and these unknown criminals, leaving many dead and others seriously injured.
Police swings in
Police spokesman Asan Kasingye rushed to Bukomasimbi- Masaka region and held a series of meetings with local leaders about the instability.
Kasingye dispelled rumours that this criminal gang is a rebel outfit.
“These are not rebels but rather small elements of thugs who want to create fear among the populace,”
Kasingye told locals in Bukomansimbi. “They are only intimidating you into fear so they can freely carry out their cowardly acts.”
We will get them
Kasingye apologized to the locals for the havoc caused by the thugs adding that such a small group of people should not stop them from going about their businesses. ‘We will deal with them’ he concluded.
Lets fight them together
The police spokesman urged locals to re-activate security committees and village registers as measures to tighten vigilance.
“The police officers need to be on the ground to find out what is always happening to the locals. Dont let them sit around. “
Masaka region police spokeswoman Diana Nandawula told TrumpetNews that the force was ready to do their job of keeping law and order. “we are ready to combat any possible attack.”
She said police has beefed up their operations to respond to any instability.
“Good enough, this group has warned us in time. We are ready to counter them to protect our citizens.”
Security is currently grappling with increased crime across the country.
Last month the country was left in utter shock after the execution of a senior police officer Felix Andrew Kaweesi.
He was gunned down in an early morning shout-out just metres away from his residence as he left for work.
The attackers and their motives remain unclear.
