Uganda Police have spoken out on the shooting that occurred earlier on Tuesday at Arua Park where a security guard shot a casual labourer and injured other 4.
Contrary to earlier reports that a guard at Superior Complex building was clobbered by the dwellers having shot a robber, Police have clarified that Simon Peter Amule instead killed a casual labourer identified as Samuel Lumu after a demonstration broke out involving traders.
The traders according to Police, were striking over increment of rent fees by the managers of the buildings prompting the guard to shoot in order disperse the crowds.
According to witnesses, Amole tried to shoot in the air to disperse demonstrators and accidentally killed Lumu. The deceased was not part of the demonstrators.
Amule is attached to Security Group Company Limited.
Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) publicist Emilian Kayima confirmed the development saying the trigger happy security guard has been arrested and the deceased body taken to Mulago hospital for postmen.
“Killer weapon recovered, Semi-Automatic Rifle. Four people injured and rushed to Mulago for medical attention,” the statement reads in part.
The four injured persons were identified as Erias Mulangira, Frank Mugisha, Geofrey Nduziha and Fahad Mubiru.
