Police chief Gen Kale Kayihura has made three sporadic reshuffles in which some officers have been dumped, transferred and others demoted following the assassination of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
Kaweesi was shot dead by unknown gunmen on March 17 early morning as he left his home in Kulambiro, a suburb of Kampala together with his driver Godfrey Mambewa and body guard Kenneth Erau.
Although our sources in police say a number of suspects have been detained in connection with the grisly murder, authorities have remained subdued on the progress of investigations.
However the public has been treated to a series of reshuffles in the force – 3 times in less than a month.
The shakeup has seen police boss dismiss his core administration team of 6 aides who executed Kayihura’s high profile assignments and also took on covert operations.
However, police spokesman AIGP Asan Kasingye describes the irregular shakeup as normal in the forces, “that is what we call tour of duty,” Kasingye said.
He dismissed theories that the IGP radically panicked in making changes not at a time when he had lost his senior officer under unclear circumstances.

It has also emerged that the commanders affected by the recent reshuffles were Kaweesi’s closest associates whom he either mentored, helped financially or influenced their recruitment.
One of those affected is Steve Sakyindi Mugyire who has been Officer in Charge Traffic at Kira road police station.
He was transferred to Mpigi in the reshuffle.
A source added that Kaweesi was a godfather of Sakyindi and the two shared a lot in common.
“In fact upon the news of his death, Sakyindi was among the first officers to report on the scene and looked very distraught,” a source said.
Aaron Baguma, former OC at CPS who was charged with murder of a city businesswoman eluded justice with the help of fallen Kaweesi.
