Political leaders, security heads, businessmen, academicians, students, journalists among others including bitter foes have massed in Kitwekyanjovu, Kyazanga, Lwengo district on Tuesday to honour fallen police officer Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
He was assassinated last Friday by gunmen near his Kampala residence in Kulambiro suburb as he left for duty.
His untimely death has since stirred debate in the security apparatus as to whether it was well orchestrated by shoddy characters.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni indeed ratified while eulogizing the departed police spokesman that mafias have infiltrated the Force. He ordered the IGP Lt Gen Kale Kayihura to “clean” the Police.
Kaweesi’s official memorial started at 10am with tens of thousands of mourners thronging the venue amid heavy downpour.
Some of the mourners are still stuck due to poor roads.
They have resorted to walking for over 3 kilometers to attend the burial ceremony.
He will be laid to rest at 2:00pm.
There were tear grief as the chopper that airlifted Kaweesi’s remains and his family touched ground in Lwengo last evening.
