Police have barred opposition leader Col Kizza Besigye from attending fallen officer Andrew Felix Kaweesi’s requiem mass at Rubaga Cathedral church on Monday morning.
Besigye had earlier appeared at Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court to honour bail conditions set by High Court Justice Wilson Musalu Musene.
After that, he travelled together with Kawempe South lawmaker Mubarak Munyagwa to Rubaga church where masses from all walks of life thronged to pay their respect to Kaweesi.
However, on his way, Besigye was blocked by police who insisted he wasn’t allowed to proceed.
Besigye laboured to ask why he couldn’t be part of the congregation but this fell on deaf ears of mean looking men in uniform.
The opposition heavyweight obliged to orders and drove back.
This has caused anger among the public questioning police why Besigye isn’t like any other Uganda.
The debate has taken toll on various social media platforms with his supporters asking whether Besigye is among the “suspects.”
On Friday shortly after the incident, Besigye described Kaweesi’s death as unfortunate and that the country had lost an exceptional officer.
He urged the government to invite external investigators to establish the motive behind his killing.
