Kaweesi shooting: Heroic bodyguard leaped to back seat to save his boss

Little-known Erau

Andrew Felix Kaweesi, Uganda Police’s late publicist who also doubled as director of human resources was gunned down yesterday morning at Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb just metres away from his gated residence.

As the world mourned the fallen soldier, the other victims his driver Kenneth Erau and his personal bodyguard Godfrey Wambewo went un-noticed.

Unsung Hero

Details emerging from the unfortunate incident showed a whole range of bravery that the public has ignored.

It has emerged that Kaweesi’s bodyguard leaped from his from co-driver’s seat onto the back seat (which is aptly named the assassination corner) to shield his boss from the hail of bullets from the on-set of the shooting.

The courageous Erau who was highly trained then shoved his boss under the back seat as he fetched for his pistol to shoot back, as the assailants who reportedly carried super AK 47 rifles with a capacity to out many bullets in seconds shot at them.

“Oyo bodyguard yabadde wamanyi, yagezezaako okutassa obulamu bwa mukama we” loosely translated to “He was courageous. He tried to save the life of his boss” said a witness who was at the scene

Died on duty

Not to be outdone, the boda boda riding assailants then downed the driver to disable movement of Kaweesi’s car before repeatedly shooting Erau who at this point was on top of his boss shielding him from the rain of bullets.

After severally shooting him on the face and hands, the courageous bodyguard slumped down on Kaweesi who was still alive.

The shooters then opened the car doors before finishing off Afande Kaweesi with shots to his head before riding off with the ghastly sense of de’ javu.
