Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has Friday afternoon cautioned local media against misreporting the issues that touch on the assassination of police spokesman AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
He was killed together with other two officers, his driver and bodyguard in the grisly shooting that took place at 9:30am near his home in Kulambilo, Kampala.
The sophisticated assassins who used a boda boda to execute their mission are still at large with security agencies launching investigations into this matter.
Bodies of the three fallen officers lie in the city mortuary for post-mortem.
UCC executive director (ED) Godfrey Mutabazi has told TrumpetNews media houses risk being closed over what he termed as reckless reporting which could prejudice investigations.
“I am moving around different media houses to caution them against irresponsible reports which could jeopardize security investigations,” He said.
Adding that, “media managers should bear in mind that the content put out there in public doesn’t abet the criminals to elude justice.”
In this era where different sources of information have emerged, media houses especially broadcasters and prints are facing stiff competition in the rush to break news.
“Subsequently they might end up publishing sensitive information which can affect the work of our security agencies,” Mutabazi noted.
Kaweesi, 48, was rushing to address Uganda Christian University (UCU) students in Mukono in a career development seminar which kicked off at 8am.
Police head, Lt Gen Kale Kayihura and other security top shots visited the crime scene.
