- Mtn faulted for dropped calls
- Airtel bashed for unclear network
- Africell accused of capping unlimited data
- Dstv lashed for poor programming
Major telecoms MTN and Airtel emerged glossy eyed after a thorough bashing by consumers in this years episode of the UCC Annual Consumers Parliament that took place at Civil Service College in Jinja on Wednesday.
You cheat us!
Consumers accused MTN and Airtel of diddling them in the much hipped 3shs per second offer that brought the four major players MTN, Vodafone, Africell and Airtel to war last year. According to the consumers, the ‘3shs per second’ phone call tariff that MTN and Airtel claimed to offer isn’t actually functional.
MTN was also accused of hiking Mobile Money costs at the expense of both the Mobile Money senders and receivers.
Your charges are high
“Why should MTN charge us to send and again charge the person receiving the money yet on Africell, you can send Money free of charge!” one customer questioned. In response, MTN claimed it is the dealers and agents that sometimes hike the fees, and that MTN is working on making sure they streamline the charges.
Airtel was whooped for its unreliable 4G offering which apparently works only in selected places while Africell was lauded for its excellent services especially the data offers and very clear calls.
“For me, Africell is the real deal in terms of data. They give you the real data and real value for money. Even their services like the Midnight calls work for me,’’ one consumer noted.
They were however questioned as to why they tend to cut internet speeds on the unlimited internet packages. Africell’s public relations charge, Steven Baryevuga told journalists network said it was was unusual that speeds really get capped.
UCC itself was vehemently castigated for conniving with people in higher places to switch off internet case in point being during the election times to which UCC stated that they run under the directives of Government.
Broadcasters are’nt giving us value for money
Digital giants Dstv and Vision Group’s Bukedde Television didn’t go untouched with the former lashed for laxities in re-connection especially in cases where a subscriber renewed their subscription by Mobile Money, while the latter got knackered for promoting witchcraft and witch doctors.
‘’They say once beaten, twice shy so we are hopeful that after today, telecoms especially MTN will stop cheating us,’’ a customer that preferred incognito remarked.
Feedback will be used by the hosts, UCC in establishing streamlined running guidelines for all telecoms and broadcasters.
