In awake to revive its ‘political nostalgia’ Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has embarked on fundraising across the continent.

The acting party Secretary General Fred Ebil Ebil on Monday night flew to Accra, Ghana where he is expected to meet leaders of several political organisations seeking to raise funds for the party to reposition itself for 2021 Presidential polls.

UPC is the only opposition political party that has been in government (twice).

One wonders how such a strong establishment has categorically failed to participate in the last two presidential elections..

Sources at Uganda House told Trumpetnews that the party is going through hard financial times and therefore unable to facilitate most of its activities.

“You go to 6 floor at Uganda House you will find a bunch of miserable hungry looking old men with brokenness well documented on their wrinkled faces,” a source observed.

These poverty stricken jobless diehards expect breakfast, lunch and evening tea provided by the party administrators before cashing them transport refund as it used to be a norm during Late Apollo Milton Obote’s reign.

“His exile and death deeply affected our party of which we have now been reduced to gypsy of sorts,” added a source.

Just when UPC members had become hopeful after Obote’s son Hon Jimmy Akena took over the mantle, the situation deteriorated with Milton Obote Foundation (MOF) administrators closing taps rendering UPC cash strapped.

MOF is the commercial wing of the party whose primary role is to finance all political activities.

MOF operators further collaborated with Orient Bank  and denied Akena and cohort access to funds.

“We are surviving on the mercy of our lord Jesus Christ,” revealed a senior member.

When this website contacted defeated Kole county legislator Ebil he confirmed he was in Ghana to identify some parties which UPC can closely relate with.

“Ideally political parties across the continent should have partners but unfortunately that tradition has is no more,” Ebil said.

At a time when Obote was UPC leader he had collaborated with a number of political organisations in Africa where they would meet sporadically to discuss the future of the continent.

Before hanging up, Ebil said the new move is to reclaim UPC’s supremacy!
