Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) one star general Moses Rwakitarate yesterday attended a meeting at the Hague in Netherlands in which opposition kingpin Col Kizza Besigye made a key note address on post election progress of using non-violence methods to defeat the regime in Uganda.
Among the attendees was Brig Rwakitarate, Uganda’s military attaché/advisor to Brussels and European Union (EU) countries.
Besigye who flew out of the country this week first addressed EU delegation in Brussels where he implored Western powers to step in and probe Kasese mass killings.
In a closed door meeting Besigye asked Koen Vervaeke, the European External Action Service (EEAS) managing director for Africa to launch investigations in Uganda’s post election violence orchestrated by the regime in opposition strongholds especially Rwenzori region.
A number of opposition legislators had earlier petitioned International Criminal Court (ICC) on the same matter.
Besigye later on Thursday moved to Netherlands and met with opposition members in the Diaspora and other diplomats at The Hague .
He told reassured the convention that there is “no doubt Uganda will be freed and change is inevitable.”
In the audience was Brig Rwakitarate who was redeployed last year in June since 2013 having been suspended over plane crash saga.
Rwakitarate was then head of UPDF air force wing when on August 12 2013, three Mi-24 combat helicopters on the way to Kismayo, by then the last urban stronghold of the militant al-Shabab in Somalia, crashed in the Mt Kenya ranges, leaving behind a trail of baffling questions.
Seven UPDF officers– including pilots and support crew perished in the mishap.
Our source at The Hague who wished to remain unnamed said the two soldiers (Besigye and Rwakitarate) met and shook hands after the meeting.
Without divulging details the source told TrumpetNews that, “they attended same convention in Hague. Besigye meets many army officers. So even if he meets Rwakitarate personally, it’s a small matter.”
